We all do dumb things at times and then look at it and say, ‘How could I have done that?’ That’s what makes us all human, and none better than the other, for we all have flaws, albeit we do have different characters, good, bad, and somewhere in between. According to Scripture, none is good.
Let’s look at Jacob’s mistake, though it may not seem that way. God was about to bless Jacob in fulfilling the promise to Abraham. Jacob was anxious and afraid and needed God’s help, so he decided to fight for it. Why? He was accustomed to fighting for everything he needed, so he just continued when it came to God, and that was his mistake. There is always a victor in every battle, and God is always the victor in every battle, and He wants us to lean on Him.
Jacob learned that he had to lean on God to receive from God. It is His desire that we all learn to lean on Him. Jacob was struck in the hollow of his thigh, and he had no choice but to lean. That’s the moment God blessed him.
