In the book of Proverbs, the wisest man who ever lived, a preacher and king, offers instructions to all who seek guidance in life. He implores us to “get wisdom, and with all thy getting, get understanding!” True wisdom, he reminds us, comes solely from God. To attain wisdom, one must seek God, for many are wise in their own conceit.
During the financial crisis of President Obama’s administration, billions of dollars were borrowed by the government and given to banks. However, a lack of wisdom coupled with limited understanding led to decisions that resulted in the accumulation of massive debts. It’s akin to handing a million dollars to an addict and telling them to address their addiction. While the addict may understand the need for help, they might not possess the wisdom to seek it immediately. Instead, they might continue indulging in their addiction, leading to dire consequences.
This scenario is reminiscent of Pharaoh’s actions during Joseph’s time. Joseph, a Hebrew slave turned prisoner, was unexpectedly elevated to the position of ruler over all Egypt during a time of crisis. His profound wisdom and understanding saved the nation from famine. This serves as a testament to the age-old truth that “the wisdom of the poor man saves the city,” even though it often goes unrecognized.
So, if you find yourself overlooked or ignored today, take heart. You may well be the wisest person in the room. However, remember that true wisdom emanates from God. Without God’s guidance, human wisdom is incomplete. This is today’s crosspoint. Have a blessed day.
