We speak a lot of how great God is, how wonderful, mighty, powerful, strong, and loving. But when there are problems and disasters, all ask: where is the great, loving God? Now we don’t want God around, neither do we want to know any of His guidelines for life. Often we don’t even want to hear His name. The thing we forget is that God is the perfect gentleman and the greatest watchman of all times. The story is told of a gentleman who was employed to watch a business house at night. One night, he watched as the building was broken into, and merchandise was stolen. The next day, he was called by his employer and told that he was paid to watch the building, but he allowed it to be broken into, and merchandise was stolen. To this, he replied, “I know you forget I was the watchman. I saw who came, who went inside, and I know what they took.” His employer replied, “Where were you? I paid you to watch.” The answer he got surprised him, “You paid me to watch, and that’s what I did. I watched everybody and what they did.” That’s what many want from God, just to watch us, and since God is not in our employ, He is not obligated to us. Yet, He watches, being the gentleman He is, but remember, one day He will remind you of what you did. Still, God does watch if we will let Him into our lives. God’s protection comes to those who want Him and His presence around.
